New threshing video....

This one is a tick over 21 minutes long, but I wanted to record as much as I could. It was the only threshing demo at the show! We had way too much rain & almost had the show rained out. The steamers didn't even show. They don't float too well. Lol! So, the threshing & shelling demo's were moved to where the saw usually works. That spot was juuuust dry enough.

Well, enough chattering. I need to get to work, as there is just not enough daylight in the fall.

Oh.... I do have an even longer version (45 min) of this video coming up. It's everything, all the clips in their entirety. There have been some requests to just let it fly.... so I will.

I would imagine a few of those fellas were glad to hit the shower that night to get the itch off. Felt for the guys braving the dust, but at least it appeared to be a cool day so the oat dust didn't cling.

Seeing this makes me think of the use of the straw, here in the valley. When I was a kid, I pretty much had free range of the hill I was raised on, and the fields, and woods around it. There was a lot of grain grown here in the 20s-40s. They would set the threshing machines up, next to a framework built of upright cedar poles, and split cedar rail cross pieces, spaced faily close together. They would deposit the straw on top of the framework where it became a shelter for the dairy cattle. It must h,ave been effective, since they were still standing and in use, in the 50s, still solid, and dry underneath. I would guess they were about 30 ft. in diameter.
