Agree. Thinning the herd for one. Another is required testing on all deer harvested. And here in CWD areas it is not legal to do recreational deer feeding as it tends to bunch up the deer and possibly? increase transmission that way.

We lived in Hardin Co for 5-6years more than a decade ago. The hunting was good.

Moved back closer to mom and dad in central KY now. Hunting is good here too.

What are your thoughts on KDFWR actions taken this year to mitigate CDW spread?

I see they have an exclusion zone in Hardin, Brek, and I think Meade.

There also seams to be some empirical data that a deer heard generally turns over in 3.5yrs and the fatal gestational period of CDW is ~5yrs. Basically deer die of other causes before succumbing to CDW.

I live in Breckinridge County where they found the deer with CWD
It was on a deer farm but I don’t know which one, there are a few with one just a couple miles from me
Outfits buy up property and install high fences, then they clear out the local deer an import deer that are breed to produce large racks, people pay big $$ to hunt those farms
I hope they keep the disease contained to that farm

I've never killed a deer! We've been married 40 years and have yet to buy a 1/4 or 1/2 of beef, been very fortunate to have killed a lot of moose, caribou, black bear, elk, birds and caught lots of salmon and halibut. Skinned wolves and Grizzlies and others, now my kids and grand kids do the killing. Sure glad they've all been into the woods. All I do is help with food plots and deer stands then sit back and enjoy results of the kids. I do enjoy a good beef steak, pork and a juicy chicken. Just been a lucky kid that enjoyed what the good lord meant for me.

I guess they are waiting for the CWD to cross over into the beef, dairy, pork and sheep herds before they shut down and burn off the deer "farms"?

I have always still hunted, mostly with a longbow.

No deer hunting for me, or any hunting anymore. Used to bird hunt but that's about it. If I shoot it then I gotta clean and butcher it. Then cook it. Then worst of all eat it. I just don't have a taste for wild game even though I grew up on duck, partridge, grouse and pheasant. I used to like it, but no more.
My dad and brother hunted deer and I couldn't eat it. Even ground venison in chili would turn my stomach. My folks would make it and not tell us kids it was made with venison. One bite and I knew. In the garbage it went.

Stalking can be difficult down my way, lost most of my hunting places to development. Very little public land and way too many hunters. Don’t hunt much any more but the last two bucks I got from the public land were in the thickest cover late in the season.

I do in the swamp on the back edge of our property. But yeah I get it, lots of places in Virginia Beach I used to hunt, not no mores!!!

Can still donit back home when I visit pops. But the did make childhood spot a nature preserve, which I am ok with.
