Oliver 1600 governor thrust bushing

Worked with Korves Oliver to figure out the racing problem with my great grandpa's Ollie 1600. It's done it for decades but now haven't used the tractor in 15 years. Sent Korves some pictures and decided everything looked pretty good besides the thrust washer so we're going to do away with that and put in the 1 piece bushing.

I haven't really had a chance to tackle it yet other than take a quick picture. What's the best way to get that old bushing out and the new one in?

When I told my 7 and 6 year old boys about the old Oliver I had out behind their Grandpa's spray trailer they got super excited and now here we are back to working on these old irons like I did with my dad and grandpa 20 years ago. The old iron itch is coming back now. Thanks for any help!

I don't know if you can find my thread from about a year ago or not, but I had problems with mine for 25 years. I finally about put in under a microscope and found the problem. Take a real close look at those laminated weights. Where they make a 90 degree bend at the bottom and the spool goes up against them, mine had an ever so slight groove worn in them. The spool would catch in the groove. Hold out on the weights and try to push and pull on the spool. When I wasn't holding them out, they didn't catch. That's what tripped me up for so many years after having it apart about 25 times. I smoothed tham off with a die grinder and that fix that, and some other problems.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I've read through your old posts about that. I was searching through it more for the bushing so I'll have to go back and reread it. I'll check out those weights a little closer in the morning. I already have thar new brass bushing so wondering if I should just throw it in anyway if the weights are a problem. Is the bushing pressed in? Do I need to cut it out somehow?

This tractor would basically be at super low idle or wide open throttle. You would have to really feather the throttle to get it to not jump all the way up or down. We eventually got used to it but what a noisy old girl when you're trying to just putt around the yard. With my 2 boys I need it to be smooth. Thanks rr
