One wire alternator and dash light?

I am resurrecting a Ford 881, replacing the wiring abomination of various previous owners. Last owner installed a one wire alternator which I'll keep for the time being. I know how to deal with charging systems and ammeters, and I've rewired a couple different 901 Fords with generators/regulators/dash light. I am uncertain how to include a dash (charging) light with a one wire alternator tho.

Any help?

Thanks
David

Some 1-wire alternators will support the use of an indicator light, some will not. In your case about all you can do is try it and see what happens.

Most likely you will have to replace the internal VR with an OEM style unit, or switch out the alternator.

If it works with a dash light, the light should have a voltage supply from the Key (ignition or ACC terminal on one lead of the light, and the other plugged into the #1 edge mounted Spade terminal. this will duplicate the OEM for a Delco or Hitachi Alternator. (Hitachi spade is labeled "L") Jim

Thanks - with this help I found some internet information explaining further. Looks like the situation turns a 'one wire' alternator into a 'two wire'.

Kinda academic at the moment as the sockets are missing from both the generator light and also the transmission light on the dash. I think I remember NAPA providing them in the past, but that was the previous century. I don't see anything to help from our host.

I need to get this thing out of my shop and into use to find out what all it might need. This iteration will be less than complete and perfect.

While it is true they make knock off will work regulators in the one wire configuration for the delco 10 and 12 si alternators I have yet to see one in the price range most tractor owners are willing to pay that could not be converted to the 3 wire configuration and work better than it did as a one wire.

A true one wire 10si is a marine alternator and cost over $100.
