Popcorn Hay.

It is like "dry as a popcorn........" We were very wet and cool here in April May and the early part of June, and I was sidelined recovering from surgery until 2nd week of June. A that time we had a three day window and I managed to make some good hay. Here in NH we prefer to have a three day forecast to make our hay. For most of June and into July we have had rain in the forecast constantly, but rarely more than a few drops. the ground is now seriouisly dry and plants on the ground are getting dry. A few days ago I could see a two day window coming, with very low humidity, and plenty of wind, and sun, So I took a chance on it. I baled this afternoon with just a day and a half of drying time. The moisture was as low as I have ever seen so that my only problem was to get the bales to a decent weight, So I kept winding the tension down.

Same here. Forecasts of rain and flooding but very little actually fell. Only a hard but brief shower here and there. A lot of it is matted and will be tough to cut.

I really don't want to jinx it. We're technically in a drought according to the drought monitor. Very little rain around us, but right here at my place, we've had 2.9 since a week ago Wednesday. There's been rain in the forecast about every other day, but nobody else is getting it. They said the rain today would be south and east of here, so I cut hay yesterday and today because I've only cut one field of second cutting and that was way back on the fourth. SO right now, guess what. It's raining pretty hard. One mass on the radar and it's right over me. I really appreciate the rain, more that anybody will ever know, but I could use some days where the forecast is right so I could actually plan around it and sit on my hands instead of getting hay washed.

It's been the exact same in my neck of the woods. Nobody can get the hay done.

It is dry here too. My brothers grandson started a fire cutting hay yesterday. They got it out pretty fast. Thank God there was little to no wind.
I once got a pretty big fire going from hitting a rock while mowing. It started when I was at the back end of a piece of town property. I had to mow a round a lot of stuff as I was making my way towards the road, so by the time I turned and saw the fire it was around 1/4 acre and growing. I fortunately had my fire dept. radio with me and was able to call it in to dispatch. We had a half dozen guys show up pretty quickly and we got it stopped.
