I need to change a leaking hydraulic pump on my 1850 with a failed PTO. Can I change out the clutch pack on the PTO when I pull the transmission top off to service the hydraulic pump? Seems like a big job to pull the PTO case off and if I can kill two birds when working on the hydraulic pump that seems to be better use of my time.
 
I don't believe you can. there is a lubrication tube that has to come out of the top of the pto housing to remove the upper shaft. Best to pull the pto unit and work on it as a separate unit outside the tractor.
