Run it or Sell it???

Hello all, I have a 2010. It has a new clutch, rebuilt carb, refurbed head and new exhaust manifold, rebuild hydro pump, refurbed gas tank, new alternator and I'm sure I missed something. It does have a small leak through the weep hole on the bottom of the transmission. Otherwise it's running great. I plan on using it for hay and some light bushhog work. The question I have is..... Do I run it and risk another failure or sell it while it's running good??

Agreed, sell it

SELL one of JD problem tractors

I wanted one of every 10 series tractors so hence a 2010 showed up on my doorstep. We use the 1010, 3010, 4010 and 5010. No one wants to use or repair the 2010. We called it Deere's red-headed stepchild. You could keep it and use it for farmyard art.

Growing up we had neighbors that bought a new 2010 diesel about the same time dad bought a 3020 power-shift. They mis-used that tractor beyond belief, poor maintenance, overloading you name it. It ran with no issues for years. The parents died and the son quite farming, I do not know where it went. I was always told there were good ones and bad ones.

IMHO when it comes to utilizing 2010 brakes, PTO operating mechanism & hydraulic system leaves a lot to be desired. Old saying while I was employed at JD dealership when 2010's were sold new was "'One can't tear up a good JD 2010 & can't repair a bad JD 2010""!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda like an 1855 diesel Oliver. A guy would think if one has lasted this long, it'll probably run forever.

There's a lot of people saying sell it. I'm in the keep it camp....because I don't think you'll be able to get your moneys worth if you put all those parts in it. As others have said its not a desirable machine unless you're a collector trying to finish the full lineup. Unless you sell it to someone who doesn't know what they're getting, I highly doubt you'll come out with a positive budget. On top of that with the sleeve deck engine design its getting to the point that you could buy another complete running 2010 with few or no mechanical issues for less than it would cost for a new sleeve deck.

I'm with rrlund, run it until something major breaks then try and part it out.

Hi all, My Dad always wanted a JD and didn't ask me before he bought it. He's 78 and doesn't ask for advice. From a cost perspective I am totally upside down on this one. I'll never recover the cost. That's simply sunk cost. The question is do I cut my losses and not throw good money after bad? Based on the feedback it's sell it. The question I have now is how much would be a good part out value?

If the only issue now is a little drip and you don't even know where it's coming from, I sure wouldn't sell it for a loss if you have a use for it.
