Saint Patrick's day 1964

This day in 64 changed my way of living. Right off the farm and into the Navy for 4 years. It was a great adventure for this farm boy. Dad wasn't raising lima beans any mou, just raising oat hay. I am sure he could have used me, but my two brothers were still there. I had good duty, spending a few weeks on a ship, off the coast of Vietnam. The rest time on naval air stations, as an aircraft engine mechanic. Stan

Speaking of St. Patrick's Day, when I worked for an insurance company I worked with a full blooded Irishman named "Flanagan". He was also former U.S. Army. So every St. Pat's day I'd wear a red USMC shirt to work just to watch the reaction I'd get.

No offense intended to the Army, just a bit of friendly inter-service rivalry. He and I were actually good friends and worked well together.

The first planes were Martin p5m sea planes with two 18 cylinder radial engines. The next planes were Locked Electra. Navy model was P3. Stan

Not meaning to "pee on the charcoal" so to speak, but March 17, 2004 was the day of my mother's funeral. It carries very sad memories for me, and I refuse to ever celebrate it again.

That must’ve been quite a change from recips to turbine engines. I told my brother when he joined the Navy to get into a P3 squadron. He got stuck in Tomcats on the Enterprise. VF-114 if I’m not mistaken.
