Seized engine miracle free-up

Talking to my brother yesterday and he told me of a you tube he saw where a guy used molasses and water 50/50 mix to free up a rusted engine. He removed heads filled cylinders with mix and in a week there was some movement. Another week and he rotated crank. This engine had been sitting outside a long time and he was just wanting to show it could be freed up. Has anyone ever heard of such a mixture? I've never had to free up a seized engine, but the day is not over.

I thought sugar is what ruined engines?!

The machinist that does my machine work keeps a 55 gal barrel of the molasses mix in his shop. If he gets a nasty stuck engine in for rebuild, he drops the whole engine in it and let it sit for about 10 days. He showed me Mercury flathead last week that he had just pulled out and cleaned off. You would be amazed at the results.

I saw that video online a few weeks ago.
Okay, if it genuinely works and you do several engines to unseize, that’s one thing. But I think it’d be much cheaper to use other products, such as penetrating oil directed at the pistons, or the atf/acetone method. I haven’t priced bulk molasses, so perhaps I’m wrong. 🤷‍♂️

I haven't put the molasses mixture in an engine, but I have used it to clean rust off from parts. The sulfur in the molasses combines with the water to form sulfuric acid. That is what does the work.
Sulfer is, (used to be anyway), cheap. Why couldn't you mix some of that with water and pour THAT into frozen cylinders? gm

sulfuric acid not sulfur. I would chose other options but what ever method you chose you will in most cases still have to contend with pits or more from the rust.

I use one part molasses 9 parts water works for rusted parts in a few days, for me. After it is rinsed off it will start to rust, and will need rust preventive. Muriatic acid will also work (pool acid) a little tamer then sulfuric acid. It will attack the metal, where molasses will not. Rust never sleeps. Stan

Hot rodders have been using molasses on rusty parts for ages. Takes a while but it does work. Probably some newer store bought concoction works better but molasses is traditional.
Why it works: chelating
