Has anyone used stub guards on a hay conditioner, if you do do you know what SH 254 and SH 923 guards are. I have been using SH 254 for several years they came on it when I bought in used. I think I need to use SH 923 to keep the sickle pushed forward. If you do not use these you won't know about them. the stub guards fit several different brands of mowers

The SH 254 is meant to be used with a separate wear bar that holds the knife forward. 5B in the pic.

The SH 923 has an integral ledger, note that the 3 guards near the knife head do not have the ledger on the mowers that used this style.

I would start with determining what was original based on your mower model/serial number, then decide if it is still original, or somebody changed it to different style cutting parts.

Also, most manufacturers offered stub guards as an option. They are not necessarily interchangeable between brands. It appears that you have a JD mower, but without knowing the model, its kinda hard to provide more guidance.
