It's such a shame those old barns cost so much to keep a roof on them. Maintenance is a big item on them if you want them to keep standing. And To bad it is hard to get more space that is higher without loosing the structural integrety of the building. With a mow floor in most of them the bracing is set for the floor and without it a lot of the bracing is lost allowing them to be weak for racking. If I could get ours so I could put machinery in it would save the need to build another shed. The roof is plenty high enough at close to 40 foot to the peak and over 12 at the eaves with more as I go to the far end with the ground slope.

My brother and I offered my dad to renew the roof on my grandfather's barn but he turned us down. He also refused to sell the barn lumber to dismantlers. Most of the timbers were chestnut. The barn finally collapsed and rotted away.

It might be time to call Bender Builders: W7205 Walnut Road, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. 920-887-3556. They can do just about anything to a barn that you want done.
