Something weird, as usual

The warning lights on the YM2000 had only the oil light functional. When I removed the other 2 bulbs, only the glass portion came out, the sockets were dry rotted and dangling under the dash. When I installed the new assembly, the tractor died upon starting and would jumpstart only after the light assembly was unplugged. After the 3rd jumpstart, it wouldn't start.

This was an exact replacement, so I don't understand what happened. Electrical stuff isn't my forte and this tractor has soooo many wires, and several aren't connected or are cut. Where do I start? 😡🤬

At least the welder got a chuckle out of it. He said the seller really did me wrong (and did the tractor wrong), although I take partial ownership of this disaster.

I'd like to find someone to go thru and clean up the wiring on it, but I'm in an area where there aren't many who do that type of work other than dealers

Yes, that's it. Which device do I need for testing?
Not sure you need a device. Just follow the wires and look for any on them to be bare and touching a ground. The temperature sensor is located right behind the water pump on top. The oil pressure sensor is located on the left side (sitting on seat). right back from the oil filter and maybe a tad above it. The charge wire goes to the yellow/green wire on the regulator. There is a hot wire coming from the 5 amp fuse to the warning lights. There is a wiring diagram and all components shown in the on line parts manual.

Where are you located?

I'll take a look at the wiring diagram again. Seems like I have a mental block when studying those...I was looking at the one for my Ford 1900 today, because it's time to get the headlights and temp gauge working and couldn't make sense of it while comparing to the tractor's wiring, which is pretty clean compared to the mess under the Yanmar's hood, 😆

I'm in Western Arkansas.

The wire diagram schematic is in English if you download the YM240 manual. I notice you posted on the YTOG too. (y)

Yes, I'll go wherever I need to for answers. Just looking at a parts list or diagram doesn't get it for folks who don't do this on a regular basis or do not have the experience. Going the YouTube route is good if there are videos specific to a model - I'm a visual person, but those videos often involve a lot of useless rambling. I've found a lot of useful videos for my truck and Kubota.

When I compare the wiring diagram to what I'm looking at on the tractors, it doesn't always align due to bundles of spliced and taped or dangling wires, which this new tractor has a lot of. When the new battery cable arrives, I'll go out and see if I can find anything wrong with the warning light wires.

In various forums, I've seen a lot of new members put off because they asked a question and were told to Google it or buy a manual. I get it if it's looking for a part number or specifications, but if it's related to a repair, I thought that's the purpose of forums, but could be wrong. Anyhow, folks in here have been helpful!
