Super 55 Transmission?

Not really sure, but appears to me that some water is finding its way into the transmission. I had checked the level about a month ago and it was barely trickling out of the right rear plug hole. Well now a couple of days ago it rained about an inch or so. Curiously I rechecked the level of the gear oil and I had about an extra quart coming out of it, the tractor has been in the same place for about 3 months now. I have 2 brand new Micron air breathers installed on it with a little bit of RTV. spread over the bolts. The gear shift knob has RTV on it also. All the bolts are tight holding the trans. cover down.. Would it be possible the water is finding its way past the bolts into the trans.. I don't know, I thought about RTV. the bolt heads????

Is it hydraulic oil leaking into the trans? Maybe check your hyd. reservoir

No, it's not the hydraulic oil, it always stays right about full all the time..

Water isn't going to work its way through bolts. Normally it comes through the gear shift boot. Water is going to make its way to the bottom of the transmission, not to where the plug is on the side. Rtv is a waste of time and effort, and will probably cause more problems than it solves. I'd start by replacing the boot.

I had forgot to mention I do have a new boot over the gear shift knob.

I think you need to verify you're getting water in there in the first place.

If it has been sitting a while, get underneath and pull the drain plug and the first thing you should get is at least a quart of water, based on your calculation of overfill from the level plug. Put the drain plug back in as soon as it changes to oil. Report back.

For an inch of rain to raise the level that far makes me think that's not the problem. I don't think you'd get a quart in there from a dozen one inch rains. You said it has a new boot anyway, so no sense chasing that red herring.

I am just going to let her set for while, as pops has been gone since 2005' and we don't farm anymore, but I was just curious as to where that extra pint or two come from??? I just try to keep it running for Ol pops sake, like you say rrlund, not even enough to worry about.. Thanks...
