At 23 yo, I jumped out of a road grader onto a concrete floor. The shop foreman told me to use the steps, that is what they are there for. At the time, I thought I was breaking some sort of company rule. Years later, I understood his reasoning.

I hauled livestock feed for close to 19 years. I was always in a hurry due to making a lot of stops during my shift. I would open the cab door, grab the hand hold and skip the steps on the way down. Now I'm paying the price for my stupidity. My feet and ankles are shot.
