Too much fire wood

A month ago I was out of wood. Now I have almost too much. A dead tree was cut down across the street from me. I asked if I cold have some of the wood. Instead of the cutters hauling it to a land fill, most of it is at my place, the owner kept some. Now I have a large pile of large rounds and smaller logs. I need to quarter the large pieces to get them to my splitter. The tree was dying, so I may have wood for next winter. It's going to be a challenge for me, and my two 25 year old Husqvarna Rancher chain saws, hope we all make it. stan

Glad you found wood close by.
I can't help to ask. California is banning NG ranges, when will they ban wood heat?

Stan, take your time on that job.
I split and stacked my wood wagon full on the mornings of July 4th and 5th while it was cloudy.
Did not have a dry stitch on when I quit each day.

As I have aged I have adopted a routine for summer wood cutting. I get up early and fill the saw with fuel and oil here at the shop. I grab one bottle of cold water from the shop fridge. I load the saw on my old 3 wheeler and head to the woods. When the saw runs out of gas or when I run out of water I load up the saw and find something cooler to do for the rest of the day. I'm home in time for breakfast.

Hauled most of my wood to the burn pile last week, several years worth. the boiler died for the third time and I am not going to replace it. $13000 for a boiler vs $2000 a year for propane and no cutting and splitting. Makes me sick to see all the dead wood out back though going to waste but I just don't want to be tied to a boiler anymore.

There are some cities that have banned burning wood. I will have a problem if they do, my main heat is from my wood stove. California is trying to stop NG ranges, but I don't think it is getting much support. Stan

I probably loaded my last firewood to sell this morning, I'm scaling back on my woodcutting, and I just turned 72. We put our land in the carbon credit program, so I can't cut any standing trees, even if they're dead. When the paper mill wants to buy some timber we will take it out for that year. There will be enough blowdown on the 400 acres to keep us supplied, as we spend 5 months in Arizona.
