Treating Moldboards for Storage

It all depends what your soil conditions are. I have a handy loom soil so a light coating of spray paint after all dirt have been cleaned off works for me. One round and the bottoms are very well scoured up

I spray WD 40 on mine. Put cardboard or such under the bottoms to catch the run off. One good coat will last 2 years or more as I have 2 plows and I use them every other year.

We used to grease them. But one year the cow for what ever reason wear where we parted the plows. They licked the grease off and the rusted up anyway.

I used to grease mine and it would last just long enough to get to the next season sitting outside around here. I've had paint on mold boards for 4-5 years without any rust.

I bought this nice Case plow this spring. As you can see it had not been used recently so was a bit rusty. And its been outside all summer and certainly got no better. I won't be using it for the foreeseable future - what can I do to keep the moldboards from rusting more? Was thinking of coating with used motor oil, but realize grease would be an option, and that there is some kind of paint for this also.

I paint mine with clear coat. Looks shiny even after a few years.
