Welcome to the forums.

Your MF 165 (GBR) has a 1974 serial number according to a list found on ANGLO Agriparts website.

Do you know the manufacturer of the engine? Some pictures of the tags, the entire tractor and the engine may help. There is a size limit of 7MB total for pictures in each post. That can be one picture or the total of several, so reducing the size of pictures may be needed.

You may want to make future posts about your tractor on the Massey Harris and Massey Ferguson Forum this site has (it is in the manufacturers section further down the index. There are a few here from your part of the world and Australia, NZ areas who may see you thread and have more info.

What are you looking for when you say you would love to know a bit more about it?

It’s got continental tyres at the back bigger (fatter) than normal for uk , I put an original metal seat on. Took the new type springy one off , new one has removable foam and I can tip the water off also it’s lower easier to see where I’m backing up to hook the implements on to the linkage , my mum had Ford 3000 , this is more powerful, 😀

Your picture of the number cast (not stamped) into the side of the engine block is called a casting number. That is placed on the engine pattern at the foundry and can be found on hundreds, if not thousands of those engine blocks. Your actual engine number will be hand stamped into a flat spot on the block or into a metal tag attached to the engine. Look for a flat machined area along the top of the block, right below the interface with the head for small (about 10mm tall) numbers stamped into the flat spot. The picture below shows the type of stamping you are looking for. It might only be one line.

Some of the tractors had a Massey Ferguson serial number tag (about 55mm x 80mm) located at the lower left of the dash cowl above and to the right of the clutch pedal. Does your tractor have that tag or a different one? The MF tag tells the build location.

The engine picture looks like the Perkins A4.236. The US models have the AD4.203 Perkins that has no balancer like the 236 has, so the 203 vibrates more unlike the 236, which is used in the US 175 and 180 models.
