Using A Quick Hitch On Older Stuff ?

I've seen where alot up people.say a quick hitch won't work on older plows and disc (etc) what keeps them from working on them.im getting older and never have anyone to help hooking up stuff.alot say the Pats is the best.but I think it would put my hydraulic top link out of range.any other ones work on older stuff.

I've never understood the point of the Pats ones. Why leave the top link out of the equation? I see no reason why a quick hitch wouldn't work on anything standard sized. Setting the implement back a few inches may make a small tractor suddenly nose light, but anything built for the job should deal with it just fine.

The key word in Aaron's post is standard sized. Many times, older implements especially, the 3-point attachment points vary a bit. From past discussions about these hitches, I believe most have problems with the hook for the top link on the quick hitch does not match up to all their implements. Some have modified their implements; others have modified or made a different top hook for the quick hitch.

I think the point for the Pat's hitches is they allow for the lift arms to be spread or closed in, if needed, to connect to the lift pins and the separate top link will hook to implements the hook on a quick hitch won't.

You can find ones that do work but it will be implement specific. Pick the implement you want and make it work.

They modified a Dmi plow here that is never used but grandpa won’t sell. There’s a Vermeer disk mower that is SIGNIFICANTLY easier to install with a forklift. both go on the 4440

as Jim ME mentioned the top link is often the problem and the hydraulic link can be to long. On the little stuff for the A it’s simple enough to buy a top link and leave it on the implement ready to go. It connects pretty quick the arms are light enough you can pick them up. The Deere top links are better but again length is often too long.

My long term plan has been that forklift as stuff begins to hurt a lot of the little stuff tractor gets parked in the shop and you go get the implements from outside and use the side shift to install. And the large stuff is 2 point or drawn implements. The planter is 2 point for the 8000s and the disk is drawn. Especially the disk of any size unless it’s a construction one for a dozer where you are really digging too deep I’d pick the drawbar as the attachment point.

I got a quick hitch for my 530 but it doesn't work on most of my tools. My case blade has 3 pin settings so you can tilt it to the side for things like cutting ditches, since those are circular to keep pin spacing the curve prevents use of the quick hitch. My brush mower has a brace under the arm pins preventing its use. And my hay mower has a brace under the third arm pin so it wont work there either. The only thing I have that it will work on is the brillion seeder I converted to 3pt. Lol. I was very disappointed to say the least.

Often you will need to add bigger adapters to the pins down below.

Sometimes as in the case of my Vermeer mower the lower ones won’t be the right spacing side to side the quick coupler is too wide

But if it’s the right spacing adapters are simple and a drive in pin holds them on

It will be a question of how it sits when it’s in operating position if you can tilt it right and use your toplink or not and will be completely implement specific.

I guess the third thing is the catagory 1 and 2 quick couplers are also different so instead of having to put bushings on and go you have to change the quick coupler for the other one and that is significantly worse. Since a lot of the play around stuff here is catagory one it limits the amount of things that work with each coupler anyway.
