This weed has been spreading fairly rapidly through my fields. It grows 24-30 inches tall. When cut it turns quickly to a gold color. It has no leaves just a narrow stem like any grass, with a joint in the middle. Here is the seed head: what is it?

My wifes phone identified it as Carolina Canary Grass or May Grass.......the sample photos look just like yours.
