We had a new blacktop driveway put in last summer and I'm NOT allowed to scratch it up or leak any oil on it.
And I gave away the horrible old snow blower that I was tired of fixing.
Still need to clear the snow off the driveway though - somehow... but can't use the loader bucket or back blade.
I know the issue will be traction but I can't use tire chains either.
Have several of these timbers up in the semi trailer. They're 8x10 x 14'
So I cut one in half, Jerry rigged it onto the loader and am going to give this a try.
Told her if this doesn't work she'll have to buy me a new snowblower. She sorta, kinda accepted that.
5 to 8 inches of the white stuff coming today so I'll know soon if I get a snowblower or not. I'd rather Not have another infernal combustion engine to deal with though.
I do have about 2500 lbs of weight hanging on the back end.
We'll see.

Sounds like you would have been better off with a gravel drive.

When I had a blacktop driveway I got a piece of 1/2" thick rubber belting and made a cutting edge for the snowplow from that. It worked well, didn't mark the blacktop and lasted a long time. I used bucket elevator bolts to attach it to the plow.

You can use old baler belts, bolt to get her 3-4 with 1/4 inch flat on one side and a good channel on the other. Leave 3-4 inches sticking past the edge. So basically you make a 7 ft long squeegee. Bolt on to blade or bucket.

That's common practice around here: Buy a length of green stripe pvc water line, cut a piece to the length of your bucket/blade edge, slit the length, and hammer on over the edge of your bucket/blade. You might go through a couple pieces per winter, but you're only looking at a couple dollars per piece.

But if the beams work, that sounds like another good & cheap solution. I wouldn't want to plow a long driveway like that, and it makes it a pain to change to your bucket/forks in a jiffy, but will probably do fine for a shorter drive.

That is a very tidy looking loader/tractor.

We had a new driveway put in also this summer. Has a few oil leaks on it when some contractors would leave their diesel trucks running in the driveway. Shaking my head on that one. My oldest son's diesel truck was leaking and he had it dried up or he would have been parking on the street.

Google Good Works Tractor they sell a rubber blade you can mount on you bucket or plow or what ever your going to use for asphalt drives. I don't know how to post a link but they sell it for allot of money, my opinion, by the inch. Order it and the will cut it to your specs.

I paved my 350 foot main drive with asphalt in 2003 and I have always used the standard steel blade on my loader buckets, plow blade, and snow blower. Although I reseal it every two years doesn't seem to be a big deal to me and doesn't really seem to hurt it . Although no one is telling me what I can and can't do when it comes to plowing the drive lol.

The city street in front of my place is a snow emergency route which means it is kept open down to the blacktop. City wiill come by with a fleet of snowplows with the blades making sparks off the blacktop. Can't tell the difference when it dries off.

Looks like you will know soon, this is my yard this morning.

Hard to tell how much since it's been blowing and drifting, but I doubt it is the 8" they predicted. Will be hard to push tho since it's wet and slippery underneath.

Around here we use driveway sealer to protect our asphalt driveways from petroleum, granted it needs redoing occasionally but it works good.

You have any old round baler belts? If so, especially the 7" JD wide ones or the really wide ones on Vermeer Balers. Bolt several of them together and bolt that to the bottom of a scraper blade and have at it.
