What is it? Barn find

This was in an old hip roof farm barn my sister once owned. My dad saved it when she sold out. We could never figure out what it was. Its 13 by 35. It opens and closes, there's not much evidence of being mounted real firmly to something. It wouldn't really open to anything the way its designed. Many of the edges on both sides are rounded or worn over. It latches shut.

My uncle had something like that. To hold rope while he worked on it

I think that is an endgate to an old 36 wagon box

The wagon wright on Youtube made a cover/endgate about like that on his Youtube channel maybe a month ago.
