I have a Wisconsin engine VH4D the rods, rings, and pistons are in terrible shape. I am looking at rebuilding engine but cannot confirm if rods were originally babbit bearings. Are replacement rods available? Will crank need turned to recieve standard bearings? Currently I see no bearing or bearing material in rod cap.Any information that helps will be greatly appreciated.

Cat,
If you can't get an insert out of the rod cap, then it's a babbited rod. If your crank journals are clean and smooth, you should be okay. I would advise you to measure them just to be sure. Replacement parts are readily available for Wisconsin engines. I have had very good service from a place called Rock Creek Consulting in PA. Here is their web address: http://home.earthlink.net/~wisconsinengines/
Just send them an e-mail explaining what you need and they will help you right away.
Good Luck and God Bless,
Tommy
