Looking to purchace a 1965 JD 1010 Narrow Front Diesel. Everything on engine appears to never had any kind of paint overspray on it so I do belive it is original. Does anyone have any numbers on how many of these were built. serial number is 1010R 50799 Was told these were very low production

1010 and 2010 have a bad reputation, odd ball John Deere, parts are hard to come by and expensive. Unless you're just gonna park it and look at it. To use-run away as fast as you can!!

It would just be a parade tractor. My draw is not many produced. I have 2RUs that ive had for about 20 years and really had very little trouble with them but they are for garden use not farm use.

If the truth be told, they are no worse (and certainly no better) than many contemporary tractors of their era. As to ''expensive parts", have you priced FIAT parts lately? As to OEM parts availability from that era, it's not too good, across the board, across all brands.

Aftermarket parts ARE available for many popular units, though.

To the O.P., if the tractor is in good condition (no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant) and it runs well, AND the price is reasonable BUY it and ENJOY it.

1010 with tricycle front axle would be a rare find. Wore out I was employed by local JD dealer when 1010/2010 were sold new. 1010/2010 didn't EARN THE NAME OF SORRIEST JD TRACTOR BUILT BY ACCIDENT. Old saying about JD 1010/2010 diesel powered tractors was as follows ""One can break a good one & can't repair a bad one""!!!

We had one, I have to agree with others but in defense of the tractor I think we used it harder than we should have. We were used to bigger tractors and we over worked it. Like everybody else, I wish I had it now just to have around.

Generally thought of as pretty bad reliability especially diesel. There are few JD tractors or equipment I don't like for reliability, it is one of them. Jim
