Conversion Gasket Set?

I have been browsing about on the web looking for a couple of engine gaskets sets for the Perkins engines in our 1850 tractors. I have noticed that I keep seeing some of the gasket sets described as "Conversion Gasket Sets". Just wondering what this means? How would it be different from a "normal" gasket set?

A conversion set should be a full set of all gaskets needed for an engine rebuild
I have rebuilt several Perkins engines from various makes of equipment and gaskets vary a lot. If I am working on one from White I buy from White, if from Massey I buy from Massey dealer.
Front cover gaskets and seals seem to be the most problems. Just my experience.

I cant disagree with the simple logic of "going to the source" but up here AGCO has started to discontinue components that would have previously been available or have increased the prices of basic parts. I believe that they can still supply most gaskets for the Perkins engines but I have to order them individually. I have also seen significant differences between different dealers when supplying parts even though they apparently come out of the same AGCO supply warehouse.

Typically, if you have upper engine gaskets (valve grinding set/head gasket set) and need to go deeper into the project adding a "conversion set" to what you already have adds up to the same as having bought a "full set" or "overhaul set" in the first place.

Are you saying you've never heard of a "conversion" gasket set?
I guess I will have to answer no, I won’t cower behind my apparent ignorance towards some terms, I don’t work on this stuff day to day. I did 30 years ago and I don’t recall that being a “term” that I remember hearing. No need to say any different, so I see web searches show plenty manufacturers use the term “conversion” my question is what is it “converting”? I have heard of “full set” and “overhaul set”

Repeating my previous post.

If you get a chance, look at some older Victor or FelPro catalogs.

Okay, thanks and understood!
