I thought I knew my Fords but this fellow says this tractor is a 4 cylinder.
So I will refer him to the experts here.

Sure looks like a 3-cylinder to me from the pictures he posted.

You are one of the few THOUSAND SERIES gurus here Jerry so is it possible it is a mutt - engine swapped out - or did someone wire it all wrong?
The "NC" makes it a 3000 for sure but I don't have an updated list after 64 for production numbers. What does NC4176423 say? Is that the engine number? FWIW & I know you know this, from a dealer AD brochure circa 1967...

Gotta be a 3 cylinder. Hood isn't long enough for it to have had a 233 or 256 swapped in. Autozone isn't doing him any favors,by saying the eatly '60's 4 cylinder starter will fit. The Red Tiger starters obviously wont fit the 3 cylinder engines.

Wondered if someone had put a Gas 5000 engine into it but it certainly looks like the size of a Gas 3000 engine from what you can see in the pictures.
I thought of that too. A 233 would bolt right up. But that would be VERY obvious to us here. Extended hood, looong radius rods and and drag links, etc.

Looking at the clearance between the starter, carb, and distributor, or, on the other side, the p/s pump, oil filter, and hydraulic pump, it has to be a 3 cylinder. Shape of the exhaust manifold, too.
