Keep it or scrap it?

This ain't a life changing choice by any means...
I scrapped a walk in safe door and frame this spring.
It had been outside for 25 years and was rusted badly.
But being a tinkering, thinkering kind of guy, I kept the combination lock. I figured out the combination once - 25 years ago. Wasn't hard, could do it again. The guts inside are in nice shape yet - no corrosion, etc.
It's solid brass. Weighs 2 1/2 ? pounds.
Would you scrap it or use it for something?
If use it, for what?

I am now 75 years of age. Somewhere around two years ago I crossed a threshold where I am now discarding a lot of things that I pick up when looking for something else. If I haven't needed it in twenty years, the liklihood that I will ever is now slim.

Install it in a shop door, maybe somebody thinking of breaking in will think twice and go to your neighbor's place instead.

Start a bin that is labeled "Throw away". Put said lock in said bin. If you ever need it, it will be there. If your executor comes across the bin after your final breath, they will know what to do with it. steve

There's an auction house near me that has weekly auctions. I've been hauling all my neat trinkets like you have, there. It's surprising what things sell for and I feel better knowing someone that " needs" them, got them.

Z , I have a diebold lock on an old "tellers safe" that I keep a pistol in. In the winter, cold shop, is very hard to get open. Warm up with a heater and get it open. What can I clean it with and lub after? Thank you, joe

If it was large and I tripped over it a few times then by all means toss.
I think it’s kind of cool, doesn’t take up much room and an idea for its use will come to you out of the blue some day.

Neat. Clean it up a bit and mount it as a little display. I would never get rid of it.

Well, I am keeping lots of artifacts that aren't near as useful as that lock!!!!!!

My friend showed up last week at a cruise night with a new 2024 Dodge Charger with high performance package. He was a little late because he usually works 10 hours grinding or paving. He has Saturdays and Sundays off to enjoy it.
