8N side distributor timing gear

8N died in the field. No spark. Noticed the rotor wasn’t turning. Pulled the governor the timing gear doesn’t spin. Fan spins and starter is strong. What do I got to fix?
Side mount distribution, 12 volt conversion, electronic ignition.

Pull the front cover off and see what is going on. Lot of work!

It looks like you have a fiber cam gear they do chuck the teeth off : (. Remove the hood, remove both steering links at the front are rear your call. Remove the radius arm on one side your call leave the radiator attached to the front support and swing the axle asy. out of your way. remove the timing cover. This is where mission creep sets in all those chucked teeth went into the oil pan the only way to get them out is remove the oil pan.
My plan from the get go would be to pull the engine while I had the engine on the pulling gizmo remove the pan. After I removed the pan mount the engine to a engine stand.

Look at the timing cover good I have seen this issue crack the cover. If it was not leaking oil from the rear seal and it looked good in the pan I leave that sleeping dog alone. The front seal will need replacing I would look into using a continuous seal there. The front timing cover are new I would helicoil any holes that oil pan bolts go into. They will strip out and its never a good time to repair that issue while you are putting it together.
