If you need help with a magneto, I do them as a hobby. Let me know. Thanks.

If you have a mag .015, distributor is .021

When I start my 1950 A, I start with full choke and open it as I am cranking.
It normally starts within a revolution or two.
This one I can pretty much kill the battery before it'll fire and if it fires its gotta hit more than 3 times otherwise it doesn't stay running

Which does it have a distributor or a Mag?? interment spark if a mag can be an impulse problem. If a distributor it can be caused by dirty points. If it where me I'd check the points and if they look bad replace if still in good shape I'd clean them

Mag

I'll give them a file and gap them and see if that makes a difference
It seems like each 2 cylinder JD has it's own formula to start right. On my old G I put choke to full, throttle 1/2. Generally it will pop when I roll it over (hand start) with second turn. If I catch choke in time it might stay running. Otherwise I go to 1/2 choke and it will start.

Sound like my D. Put the choke on and the second round of compression on the second hump you better have the choke off in one second.
