4440 Powershift Park Cable

I have a 79 4440 Powershift. Shifts great except it's extremely hard to get in and out of park. I have tried lubing the cable. Is it for sure the cable or is there anything else I should check first?

Spring(item 7) requires removing trans top cover for a visual inspection.

I pulled the cable loose on the transmission end. It’s not tight once you take the bend out of it. And the transmission park lever rotates freely by hand so it looks like the cable is the issue.
