IH 504 Hydraulic spool

Hello everyone,

I am checking to see if anyone can give me a yes or no if I can safely pull the hydraulic spools(the ones that control the loader) on my IH 504 utility? They are located on the right side of the seat. One of them is leaking and I have new o-rings for them. I was thinking because they are under pressure as it hasn't been started in a little bit and the location seems to be higher than where the oil is that i should be fine. But jut want to verify before i do it. any help you can give is greatly appreiated.

Yes just make sure you relive all pressure via the levers. By moving to each direction and leave for a couple seconds each way, or if you have a float position just push them to float, and then put back into the neutral position after all movement has stopped. You will now be able to work on them with no issue of oil flowing other than what might leak out of a cylinder or just the valve if the cylinders are lower than the valves.

Any idea on the easiest way to remove these pipes from the hydraulic housing. I have used a socket on the back but was only able to remove the cap on the back of the left one. I tried channel locks but didn't work. I briefly tried a pipe wrench but didn't want to put to much pressure in case I bent/indented them.
