combined some wheat yesterday. didnt get any unloading pic's as it was dark and had to have it off the trucks as was a shower during the night.

its a 396, i wish it was a 427. thats a heck of a load on there, bet close to 600 bu. but its only a field truck so dont even burn one thank of fuel for my little operation. i overhauled a lot of them holley carbs back when them trucks were on the road in the 80's you can pretty well watch the gas gauge drop as your driving this thing. plus i also did this carb too. lol. it sits outside all winter , then in spring i start it up and a couple times till fall. all with the same battery for a few years now. the 65 has the 327 engine that truck only has 49.000 miles and i take it to town to clean seed.it stays inside.

The old Chevy looks like a nice one! Can’t let you by without questioning you, ha ha. You sure it’s not a 366? That was the other BBC tall deck truck engine. The 396 was a low deck car engine. A truck intake etc. won’t fit it.

Is the tandem a floating rear axle or a mismatched pair of axles? The bolt patter in the axles are different is the reason for asking. And yes that is a good jag on the tandem. I can not keep a chevy running just will not run for me. The biggest reason the\y make good wagons and trailers. Heavy axles and decent frames for pulling on like that.

Back when I first worked for the city, they had 3 GMC 7500 dumps we used for snow removal with the 427s. Running the spreader and underbody, you better be pulling up to the fuel island before 12 hrs. When they started buying diesels, the same truck doing the same work with the same size fuel tank would run 36 hrs. No where near the power though.

someone added this tag axle under this truck no drive shaft . its just there for the load. you cant keep them running ? well maybe you put diesel in the gas tank ! lol. chev always had the better engine back in them days. its them fords that always needed attention. like that 391 for example.

I worked for a guy who ran a pair of Massey combines custom harvesting in the 80s, when I was in high school. I had to wash and wax the combines and trucks in the summer before he headed south and made his way back to ND. I think his were 760s

There's an area around New Salem/Almont/Carson ND where you can hardly throw a rock without hitting an old Massey combine. Must have had a good dealer in the area. Carson ND has to be the IH capitol with the number of pickups, trucks, Travelalls, tractors etc. in that area.

I hauled a lot of pulpwood and gravel with Ford's from the 60's. Super Duty engines 401, 477 and 534. Pretty tough engines, used gasoline and a lot of it.
