Exactly how did you use the dowel?

Old timer back in the 70's when I was a youngster had a 250-3000 he wanted to sell me, but I had no money back then. He told me he used it to shoot monkeys when he was in the Philippines. Given his age that must have been way before WWII

A 1/4 in. dowel fits tightly into the case. I put superglue in first then the dowel. after it set I drilled the dowel slightly smaller than the rod. It screwed on tight. 1950's era Model 99 with the Schnabel fore stock.

It's a 1050's era Model 99. I have had a lot of success with that gun even on feral hogs. I have a model 99 .308 also. I shoot left handed so lever action works best for me.

RE: the .250-300. Winchester quit producing the cartridge back in the 90's as I recall. The outcry caused them to turn some out every 2 years but then they quit again. I haven't hunted since 2017 and have plenty on hand but also have the dies to hand load. I killed my first deer back in the early '60's with a Model 99 .300 Savage. I don't think that ammo is currently produced either.

No , but just saying ! But it would be , as Sheriff Andy Taylor said , - A might thoughty of you !

That should work. When I was in high school shop, we spent half the time on our project and the other half in back on the lathe making gear shift knobs, billy clubs, and you name it. Then stain and tried to see how many coats of varnish we could put on. Choke knobs would be easy.

My father and I owned a 250 3000 E Savage lever action /neither of us liked the firing noise it made after we bought a 22 250 Remington so after he passed away I sold it in preference of the quieter riffle & was just as effective.
