Ford 8N won’t start. Got spark. New coil. Added fuel to two cylinders and it fired briefly. Help!!
Pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 2 minutes. You might also try holding your hand over the air intake of the carb by pulling the air cleaner tube off and try to start it.

Welcome to the Forums.

It can be helpful if you give a few more details such as front or side mount distributor, was it running and quit, or you just got it and are trying to start it for the first time, original 6-volt or a 12-volt conversion. Have you checked the fuel level in the tank?

Sorry! I’m new! Side mount. 6-volt. Fuel level good. I had trouble leaking fuel out of the carburetor when tractor was off. Bent the floats down and that helped. New carb since last summer. Was running ok even before the leaking and now it won’t start.

Is that with the valve at the tank open when checking for filling a pint jar??

On all tractor when you park them you should shut to gas valve off or it can fill the oil pan with gas and then if you run it that can cause the engine to throw a rod etc. Worked on a 9N a few years back and the guy left the gas turned on and I drained 5 plug gal of oil/gas mix out of the oil pan

I will add the only way to know how much gas is left in the tank is to put a rod, yardstick, something long enough to hit the bottom of the tank so you can see the wet line when you pull it out. Just because you put gas in the tank yesterday doesn’t mean there’s gas in it today. ( you know you have to reserve with the factory valve )?

Thanks for all your help!!👍👍
I’m having trouble keeping the gas from overflowing out the carburetor intake when the tractor is not running. I bent the floats down so that more pressure is pushed up on the pin, but it doesn’t help. I used air pressure to clean out the fuel lines and ports. Help!!

d chance the carb needs to be rebuilt and likely to have some dirt/rust in the float needle seat so the float cannot do it's job
