Off topic threads

I notice there is a thread in Tractor and Farm talk about kitchen flooring, and another one about kitchen cabinets. Shouldn't these be in Tales? I would have thought that the moderators would have moved them, and possibly a few others.
Not complaining, just curious.

Did you notice "who" revived them?

MarkB has it covered, apparently the "mods" haven't yet found this AI nonsense to be offensive, for some reason.

I do not remember any thread being relocated to the correct category, ever.

Deleted yes, but none moved.

I guess I had the impression that the new "crew" was going to be more diligent about that. As I mentioned, it's no big deal--just an observation I made.

I didn't until you brought it up. I hadn't read the threads, just going by the titles on them.

I have seen a couple moved, however I believe the person who posted them used the "Contact Us" button and requested their post/thread be moved to a correct forum. I doubt adamjones will request such a move.

Thanks everyone for helping identify this user. After reviewing the account, the user was not providing useful information and was attempting to embed backlinks to various sites in their "responses". This user has been banned from the forum and we are going through and removing their posts.

The forum is very important to us and we have a team of individuals monitoring the forum each day.

My original question had to do with off-topic threads being relocated to the proper forums. Is that being addressed?

I can't answer for the current moderators but will offer:

If I remember right such threads very seldom, if ever, got moved (unless poofed) in the old forum formats. I seem to remember Chris saying something like; it is like someone going into a coffee shop and setting at a certain table with a certain group. That is where they felt most comfortable, thus that is where they post even if it is off topic, they know that is where their group they want to share with is.

In the case of the flooring thread you mention, the original thread started back in 2015 may have been on Tractor Talk, and when adamjones posted to it, the thread simply came to the top of Tractor & Farm Talk (the renamed Tractor Talk, where it was originally started).

Then one can get deeper into just what is off topic. If one is remodeling their farmhouse and asks about flooring, isn't that a farm talk subject? There are brand specific forums in the Manufacturer Section. Should every thread/post for a brand be moved to that specific brand forum? Does getting an 8N project of getting it running and doing body work on it belong on the 9N, 2N, & 8N Forum, the Restoration Forum, or the Paint & Bodywork Forum? Or several threads across the three Forums? How would the moderators decide on what the line is? They could be very busy moving things around here some days.

I do agree some of the off-topic things that land in the forums, other than in Tractor Tales (the forum for off topic discussions) seems unnecessary, especially when done by long time users, but I can skip it if it is not a subject I am interested in. Overall, I think the new forum software is an improvement and there are some things that we will just live with, such as posts that you or I might consider should be moved. JMHO

Like I said earlier, it doesn't matter to me. I just raised the question. Then the thread went off on the adamjones thing, which was fine. I just found it interesting that when the moderator finally did respond, he or she skipped over the original question entirely.

Otherwise, I agree. If a thread doesn't interest me, I just skip over it.

Typically we want to moderate any offensive or combative posts. It is not in our regular play book to move threads without input from users that they think a thread should go to a different forum.

If there are specific cases you feel strongly about feel free to report the threads and state where you think they need to be moved. We rely heavily on our community to give us input to make the forum the best possible resource it can be. Thank you for you input and involvement in our forum!
