Picking ear corn

Picked a few loads of ear corn with my 400 and PR corn pucker.

I elevate it into a couple silage boxes for storage. They make it easy for grinding with no shoveling. My old joints appreciate that.

Got some combined too, but no pics of the combine yet.

Corn is dry this year, haven't tested it yet, but don't think it will need drying.

I always enjoy seeing pics of you using the picker, Jon. The gentleman you bought it from passed away Saturday. The family is/was grateful to all those who bought his "treasures" and kept then alive.

Better put some top boards on the combine tank. You will still run it over but it takes a little longer.

Never understood why harvesting ear corn went away. I know so still do, and I know if you are selling corn as a cash crop people want it shelled, but for those that raise corn to feed animals, grinding ear corn, even with the husk, just makes so much more sense. Also, always enjoy the pictures.

Thanks for sharing pictures. Never seen a case PR picker around here. Jon a 1x8 boards on both my 1160's makes it's easier not over fill the grain tank until you tell yourself ah I can make it all the way to the end of these rows.

Lol, I'm going to take the extra ring off my parts combine and add it to this one, can't quite make a round on my main fields like it is.

My oldest machine has two rings with a small window in the bottom. Seemed like I still over ran the bin at least once per year.

Over running it will always happen with me, I have a mental shortcoming that makes me need to get the bin full. LOL. I just hate dumping if the bin isn't full. I would rather drive across the field to get to the truck rather than dump a bin that's not full while I'm there. Lol. I've tried therapy and it didn't take.

I know how that goes. My gleaner has alot larger tank and I still seem to over filled a few times.I have seen where people have put a small board connected to a old type brake light switch to a light in the cab. But I still think that I too try and get that little extra in before stopping and backing out to unload

Jon, thanks for the pics. Never seen a PR corn picker. Looks like it does a good job. I appreciate you posting pics. Nick
