Incorrect Super A carburetor?

Hi, I just purchased a Super A (SN343680) that only kind of runs. I know it’s a carburetor problem because the tractor runs fine with a different carburetor.

My carburetor is a Zenith 12098 which I can’t find any mention of these being used on a Super A (rather for Wisconsin engines). I believe my engine to be the c123 based off the cast number 354898. I intended to rebuild the carburetor but now I wonder if I even have the right carburetor and if that could be leading to my problems? Does anyone know if the 12098 Zenith will work on a super A, and if/if not should I rebuild or look at purchasing the correct carburetor?

Thank you.

If you need to get a new carburetor, you might look at a Zenith 14007 carburetor at McDonald Carburetor. That is one of the carburetors that is supposed to be on the tractor, and it's made in the U.S.A. It's kind of pricey, but should bolt right on and work coming out of the box. McDonald Carburetor has the best price I found.

Is this the same as the zenith 14007 available on here? It looks to be cheaper through yesterdays tractors. Is it a genuine zenith carburetor?

Yes, the 14007 carburetor is a real Zenith carburetor. It does look like it's slightly cheaper from yesterday's tractors, depending on how much it costs to ship.

Jim is correct as always. IH used Zenith, Carter and Marvel-Shebler. I would avoid Carter for parts availability and I think they were a problematic carb based on anecdotes. I think the majority used were Zenith and Carter. M-S are seen less often imo. I don’t know if I would get too hung up on model numbers. For all intents and purposes this tractor was in production from 1939 (Farmall A ) until 1974 (Farmall 140).
