3910 FORD TRACTOR

I Have a Ford 3910 TRACTOR, I have read that some models built between 1984-1990 had the gear shift on the flat part of the transmission, others up near the steering wheel. Besides serial numbers are there any other ways to check date of manufacture?

I think it is a 50 HP 3910 - II , manufactured between 86 and 89, it has the gear shifter near the steering wheel and a black stripe down the hood, white lettering. any help appreciated

The date of manufacture is called the unit code. The model code, unit code, and serial number are stamped on a flat spot on the transmission to the rear of the starter. Also the codes are repeated on a foil ID sticker elsewhere on the tractor. The model number for a 3910 will start with CA4 and the serial number with C, BA, or BB. Below is a picture I borrowed from Tractorhouse for a 3910. Look for these codes and post back.

It is most likely the model with the "mechanical shuttle" transmission.

NO ONE has responded to my question. i have tried to find out what year ford built the 3910 with colum shift like the one shown above,
i have looked at numbers of tractors on internet but could not get answer thanks .Don

Is it a 6 speed? Tractordata.com says…

Transmission
Typemechanical shuttle
Gears6 forward and 4 reverse
Six-speed transmission became available on the 3910 II in 1986.

3910 was first available in 1983, synchronized 8 spd trans was first available in 1981 when the 10 Series was introduced and was also used on the 3610 which was replaced by the 3910 in 1983
So to answer your question all 3910 year models could be ordered with column shift synchronized 8 spd transmission
The 6 spd transmission became available on the 3910 in 86 but that transmission was a carryover from the industrial tractors, my 68 model 4500 has that transmission

thank you for the information i still have no idea what year model mine is the s/n has been removed and the person i bought it from did not either'
it runs very good with small hydro leak.i am happy with it , Don

I totally agree. I have a 3910 with the 8 speed non synchro dual range tranny. Ford advertises that tranny to be non sybnchro eluding to the fact that shifting could be a gear grinding problem. I have 3 now and have had Fords for 35 or so years. Shifting the non-synchro is not a problem and actually shifts very well and as I see it no need for a synchro washer on the tranny shafts.

Texas mark I would like to see a picture your 3 3910 tractors it may give me an idea what mine is. where do you reside in texas.

75424....I am not much on new fangled gadgets including digital cameras....I have taken a few pictures but not good at it. What are your questions? I only have one 3910, plus a 3000 and 3600 for the 3 Fords I mentioned. Over the years I have had several 4 cylinder 2000 and 4000 units, another 3000, and a 4600 to my best recollection.

Have you looking on the transmission case behind to starter for the stamped in numbers
The serial number will give one the year the tractor was built and where it was built
The unit number tells what year, day and shift it came off the production line
The model code tells the tractors model, engine, pto and transmission it was equipped with
There are also date codes telling when each assembly was built stamped into the engine’s right front mounting tab, left side of the transmission case, rear axle near where it bolts to the transmission and lift top under the right side of the seat. The front axle assembly is also stamped but I don’t remember where at this time other than on the main bolster
A photo above shows the numbers and location you should be looking for

Look at the picture in Andy's post (#4). I think there should be one more set of numbers/letters between the two sets you posted, to complete the info.
