What is this banjo like hydraulic fitting called and does anyone know where I can get one? It looks like someone cut them on one side and welded them to re utilize them. This is on a 79 Ford 5600

I'm sure they did that so they could use standard (and less expensive ) hydraulic fittings at the hose shop.


If such a thing existed, I would call it a banjo to JIC adapter, or whatever male fitting they chose to weld on there.

They are special OEM banjo hose ends that Ford liked. Not a standard item. A hose shop can make new hoses with these SAE swivel hose ends.

New Holland sells a kit part # 311891 that comes with the elbow and the banjo bolt also the o-rings needed, it is threaded for 3/8'' pipe thread so you can use a regular hose. They are not cheap though, they list around $75 each now. I used to always keep a pair on hand so could use a standard hose when needed.

The banjo is a really an "orb" fitting that has been modified. So a hydraulic orb 90 degree fitting will work instead of the banjo.

Looks like a pretty tight space. Is there enough clearance to screw two number 6 elbows into those ports?

For those who don't want to use the Ford Banjo Adapter, you can use ORB forged compact 90-s, one short and one long. This enables you to keep your hoses parallel and tight to the valve body and eliminates the space problems raised previously.

7/8" x 7/8" x 7/8" square block without the ferrule. If you look at the pictures posted above by the original poster, you will see three variations of fitting, one original and two modifications. On the right, the upper fitting is original and the lower has been rebuilt. The hose and original ferrule removed and a new hose and ferrule swaged to the banjo fitting. On the left, both fittings have been cut and and adapters welded thereto. Given these modifications close proximity to the family jewels, hopefully the mods were done well enough to avoid failure. The mod on the lower right would be my second choice, the Ford Banjo Adapter I posted above being the first. If space is not an issue, then the ORB compact 90-s are the way to go as they're a much cheaper option, which I do with the aftermarket (3 valve) valve body for box scrapers.

Its pretty easy to make a square banjo adapter from scratch. Just a length of square bar with two holes in it. Thread the end hole for 3/8 NPT and screw it on to a hose with a male pipe end.
