m7040 Kubota

I posted the other day about an M6800 Kubota and got some good responses, at least one of which mentioned the M7040. Anyway, I found an M7040, 4wd, on a dealer's lot with @700 hours, but it looked a little more used than that me. The dealer said he got it in Oklahoma, and brought it back here to Kentucky to sell. He said he had to put a power steering pump in it. Is that a common failure at such low hours? Thanks, Mark.

I thought there was only one pump on those, not a dedicate power steering system, but I could be wrong. I have an SU and thought it had one pump for everything. Was the "handpump" the steering wheel moves done instead?

700 hours should have zero issue really, but if the rest of the tractor doesn't match I'd be concerned.

This place sells new Mahindra and Vermeer, and also used equipment, mostly tractors , I think. The tranny fluid looked very clean on the dipstick, and I believe he changed the pump. They seemed knowledgeable about things- he had said it was a piggyback pump. I just thought it was odd to need a pump at such low hours. Of course, he could not tell me anything about the tractor- what it was used for, how it was maintained, anything that had ever been done to it. I think it is a good solid tractor overall, but it seemed to be rough around the edges. I prefer buying from individuals because usually you can tell more about the equipment thru a friendly conversation. Thanks, Mark.

Cosmetics could be rough if it sat outside and was used roughly.

Depends on the price.

Does the tire wear match the rest of the machine?

The tires are actually what made me wonder. Between the lugs, the tires looked like combine tires with a lot of damage from corn stalks. That and the air filter was a dirty mess. It had been pressure washed, but you could tell it had been very dirty before the wash. The loader had a third function hook up, had a quick attach bucket, but no hay spear. It also had extendable lower 3pt lift arms. It had all the features and more that I want. It was more than I had planned on spending, however. The price is on par with others I see on marketplace. I was out for a ride with a friend when we decided to check the place out-never went there before. I'm just getting the big eye for different tractor. Mark.

I don't have corn stalks, but I've got several times the hours that one has and my rubber looks close to new.

Air filter is of concern to me.

Dirty tractor, tore up tires, rough and third function makes me think it was being used to clear land / handle brush with a grapple.

All M7040 should have the extendible links.

These are a solid tractor, conceivable this one either has wrong hours, or filter/fluid was never changed since new perhaps causing the pump issue.

I had not thought of the brush clearing possibility-that would definitely explain the tires. He said it came from Texas by way of Oklahoma, then here to Kentucky.
I am looking to upgrade from my CIH 485-I am guessing you have a 495. I like my 485, just want and need something a little bigger. And right now I can wait until springtime-I'm just looking for the 'right' tractor. Mark.

Still have the 495...replaced it with an M7040SUHD for the same reason, needed something a little bigger + 4wd in my case.

If you have/get the serial number of the tractor you can contact a Kubota dealer. The dealer can look up service performed on the tractor at Kubota dealers. The previous owners are likely to have warranty work performed at dealers, and records will show when, where, and to whom the tractor was originally sold as well as the dates, hour meter readings, and descriptions of work performed.
