Farming in England

I keep hearing a lot of noise about something going on in England about 'banning' farming. What's the deal?Please dont make it into a political issue. I just want to know what's going on. Thanks.

The government in the UK has been making farming more and more difficult in the past ten+ years by passing legislation that does anything but support agriculture.
The issue at the moment is the current government is socialist and detests farmers plain and simple. They have made it so a farmer cannot pass the family farm down to their children without paying 20% of the farms value as a tax.

Interesting. I thought the Uk had a standard (for everyone) inheritance tax of 40% (for values above some threshold). And there was some consideration for reducing that to 20% (on a higher threshold) for farmers.

It's complicated but any farm worth over a million pounds in agricultural assets was exempt from the tax so the present government has decided to change it to 20%.

Is it 1 million or 3 million????

325k nil rate
175k residential nil rate
1 million ag
That’s 1.5 million for the husband and
1.5 million for the wife to pass down to the kids
And this only includes what you actually give to the kids free a clear not what they may buy from you.

Educate us on the real value as I would like to know more.

Same thing was/is happening in the U.S.A., hopefully the tide is turning if we want our grandchildren to eat. A restriction was finally enacted to prevent China from buying up even more farmland.

The government in power just changed there in June of this year .... and like most democratic countries (including where all of us live), the people choose which direction things will head. So changing direction was a stupid decision over there but the right one here, is that correct?

Excessive use of nitrogen-based fertilisers in agriculture is contributing to nitrous oxide emissions.

Leftover nitrogen that hasn’t been absorbed by plants, reacts with the soil to produce this dangerous greenhouse gas.

Agriculture accounts for 80% of human-caused nitrous oxide emissions globally and for 8-14% of all greenhouse gasses.

Helping farmers to apply more precise quantities of nitrogen fertiliser will thus be able to help combat climate change.

An investment group wants to make a fertilizer in Terre Haute, capture the CO2 and inject it under ground.
That is creating a big stir. Don't put CO2 in my drinking water.

CO2 is not a pollutant, it is plant food and if we lower it much more we will be in trouble by not having enough of it. "Global warming" will make double cropping practical in many areas. Is it perfect? Of course not, but neither is it really a bad thing as it will help toward a real abundance of food. Most of us will benefit.

CO2 is still a greenhouse gas and Greenies hate it.

Industrial ammonia production emits more CO2 than any other chemical-making reaction. Chemists want to change that​

Greenies also hate methane gas produced by mega pig and mega dairies.

Don't get sidetracked from the original topic, England 'banning' farming.. These are reasons why some people hate farmers.

Double cropping wheat and beans has been commonplace I my area for decades.
