Finished a wagon project, well almost

Been working on a wagon to haul ear corn in, getting ear corn out of a gravity bed is a bit of work for me these days, my little flair box dump wagon is to narrow and several ears are lost over the sides in our not straight fields
So I built this 12ft flat with sides and extensions to how around 70 bushels

Did I mention that it has a hydraulic scope shovel

Just needs paint but at 20 degrees and no heated shop to paint in that will have to wait

I see you put a full width tailgate in it also. Nice job! The one we had when I was growing up just had a small one, and the corn would get hung up in the corners. Will there be chains or something on it to keep it from opening too far?

How does that lift function? Looks backwards to some I have seen. Can't see cylinder attachments.

We built flare side boards on top the flair wagons to catch the ears on the corners.

How does that lift function? Looks backwards to some I have seen. Can't see cylinder attachments.

JMOR made me look again, and it is hard to see. If you click on the photo it pops into a different window where you have the option to magnify. Then you can just barely see the cylinder barrel poking out.

Presently we unload in a open shed so it’s just dump it out and pile it up with a tractor loader and bucket
With chains ear corn will probably hang up but that will be an option
I do plan to add a grain gate later should it be used for shelled corn

I have another hoist under my flair box but the cylinder is in questionable condition

That would help but we’re trying to get away from high sided flair and gravity beds
Many of our fields are not flat and have water ways, every year at some point we had the elevator come down and strike the front of the wagon, about every year I have to straighten out the cob deflector on the elevator

Not much option unless one finds a longer hoist or builds a shorter wagon, only place to mount it is the front axle bolster
On trucks one can move the hoist back and forth on the frame rails to get a steeper dump angle or more lifting power

That makes sense. We dumped into an elevator and ran it up into a crib. so we needed to control the flow. If you're just dumping it into a pile, that won't be an issue.
