IH 1501 loader narrow bucket replacement

I have a IH 424 with the economy 1501 loader that has the narrow bucket on it. Single middle tilt cyclinder. I'd like to have a wider (front end width) bucket. I believe there are wider buckets available similiar to a Kubota bucket but I have not seen any around for that loader. Has anyone modified the current narrow bucket or what is the best way to change to a wide bucket? Pictures would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mine has a wide bucket but I don't know what it came off of as it was there when I bought it. I'll try to take a couple pics later.

The 1501 is something like an 800 lb loader so you can't put very much in a wide bucket.

You are correct. Light duty. Still would like a small (Kubota style) bucket. I'm not familiar with sizes but kinda looking for something close to front tire width or slightly wider. Thanks for your help.

An IH 1501loader will handle anything that a 424 can lift or move but then again some Operators can bend or break anything. Always do heavy pushing straight in front of the tractor not an angle.

Lots of buckets have been modified/widened. Both my loaders have widened buckets.Any decent welder/welding shop can do it. No biggie.Or you can find any wider bucket and weld mounts on to it. Again,no biggie.

You are lucky you have hydraulic bucket. Many 1501 and 1550 loaders here that had wide buckets put on for snow removal. Were a few done here that had enclosed "slots" in the bucket so the pivot points were the same and the cylinder mounted the same way.

I find a bucket I like and make and weld on the brackets. Need to keep the triangulation the same. You can buy new buckets without the brackets welded on....James

My Dad had a 434 with 1501 loader and later 384 with 1550 and he had his welder man make brackets for a front blade and later a round bale spear. The only difficulty is designing the connecting from the bucket cylinder so the bucket can have the full dump and tip back without the bucket cylinder jamming on the cross support on the loader frame.

I think I've seen that and it looks like kinda a pain to fabricate. I'll see if I can find any pics on line. Thanks.

They don't make buckets "for" a 60 year old loader. You'll need to find a bucket you like, and either have the bucket modified or modify it yourself, to fit the loader.

In the day, they made extension covers for the narrow buckets to widen them for snow removal. These were usually made from light metal and got destroyed, so odds are you are not going to find one in the wild.

Here are a couple pictures, borrowed from the web, showing similar to what you would need to do to keep your bucket geometry.

That's kinda the plan. I figured actually finding a bucket that was correct for the 1501 would be a slim chance. Was just hoping for some pics of what others may have done. One thought would be to find the bucket I like and cut its profile out off the narrow bucket and weld the wider in place? Or does it make more sense or try welding tabs on a wide bucket to work on the 1501 loader so that I have two bucket options? Thanks.

Here is a link to a photo of an IH 1550 same as your 1501 loader with a wider bucket attached.

Another photo of 1550 with the slots in the bucket for the loader arms

The only thing I see about the slotted bucket it would be a PITA to get the bucket pins lined up to install on the loader arms but if you never change buckets it would not be a problem.

Thanks for the picture!
