1957 Ford 860 Hyd Question

Happy Holidays!! We just got my Grandfathers 1957 Ford 860 tractor running after sitting for several years! What a beauty. Now onto the Hyd section.
There was a blade attached to the 3point which is now off. I have changed all fluids (Hyd, Rear Axle, Trans). I can't seem to get the three point arms to lift once I use the draft controls. Also, I don't know what the "addition" to the hyd cover is (see pic). I assume that G Pa had some other attachments he would engage once he engaged these levers. What is a quick way without tearing into the hyd to determine what it would take to get the three point working? Thanks !! Parker

Thats a 2 spool auxillary hydraulic valve. So long as it is in neutral, should not affect the 3 pt.

THANK YOU Moresmoke. Mind explaining what this "2spool hyd" valve does? I am new to this older tractor stuff. Also, any thoughts on my hyd question as to why the 3point arms are not moving? Thanks again! Parker

A two spool valve means it has the ability to operate two different hydraulic functions. One lever moves the valve(spool) you see on the top with the pin sticking up through the hole in the rectangle on the end of it. I assume the other lever moves a spool hidden out of view. It looks like the visible spool allows flow to the fittings coming off the right side at the top of your photo. However I do not see any openings for the lower valve to connect to I do see one plug that may be for connecting to it. It may also be that that lever selects between 3 point function or functions operated of the top spool, that is all but a wild guess for this guy that is more familiar with IH tractors. Hopefully a knowledgeable Ford guy will come along and provide more info. Please check your Private messages by your “envelope or letter” icon at the top I have some other info for you there.

The remote hydraulic valve pictured is an AICO dual spool unit.

AICO has been out of business for years and parts are unavailable.

You might be able to get the lift working by priming the pump.

The lever on the left will direct oil flow to the ports that have pipe fittings attached. The lever on the right directs oil to the port with the square headed plug on the right, or there is another plug under the pipes pictured on the left side. There is an internal plug in one of those ports that converts that spool between single acting (one pressure line) and double acting (2 pressure lines).

One note of caution, the ports on that AICO valve are British pipe. American NPT sort of fits, but doesnt usually seal without a good sealant.
