I.D. Old Implement

I usually post on the I.H. forum but some over there thought I should ask the John Deere folks. I purchased some property a few years back which had some abandoned implements. Several believe this may be an old John Deere disk tiller. Can anyone be of assistance in helping me make an accurate identification ?

Would it be a 260? Note that it did have cylinders at one time.

I think hyd cylinder bracket was a dealer ordering option. I think model 260A-H is correct if I counted the correct # of disks as 6

In my youth I drove a JD tractor many hours that was pulling a similar 8 disk tiller. In later years while employed at local JD dealership I remember looking up & selling repair parts for those JD disk tillers.

The farm it is on has " prairie clay " -the kind that sticks to your post hole diggers and takes great effort to beat off. Or makes you 9 feet tall when you walk through a wet field. Would this have been used to bust that type soil up back in the day ? I grow cattle and Pine trees in Mississippi , therefore my knowledge of implements is limited to using a modern disk to plant ryegrass and gardens.

Actually if adjusted correctly those one-way plows will till multiple types of soils. It's very important that front disk operates a little shallower than rear disk so rear furrow will remain in the furrow!
