Chinese carb update

I posted a couple weeks ago about problems with a Chinese carb on a Farmall C. It would run ok at times but always had to keep adjusting the carb. The advice given was everywhere from likely debris in the carb to water in the fuel to timing issues to installer error to inanimate objects can't adjust themselves. I assumed maybe it did have debris in it so I took it apart once again and blew every passage out with compressed air and there was no change. So I took a $30 gamble and ordered another Amazon carb and it did exactly the same. In frustration while ot was running I totally removed the main jet adjusting needle and it smoothed out perfectly. So I cut off the needle just under the threads and reinstalled it to plug the direct hole into the bowl. It ran terrible again. So for now I'm leaving it out and it runs flawlessly. Why, I don't know. So yes the cheap carbs can be made to work but you might have to fool with it some. The needle I'm referring to is NOT on the original carbs. I'm hoping this post might help someone in the future. Pictures of the cut off needle and the hole that needs to remain open. It's likely the first amazon carb would've worked if I tried this but I'm not putting it back on to find out

That's why all the ones I know of bought from Amazon are not equal to original. That's also the reason why I will never buy one from Amazon! I would send it into several carburetor rebuild shops before every Amazon.

Plug the hole with your finger. if it goes back to terrible running, I would probably put felt in it to keep dirt out. If it didn't change with a finger, I would cut the needle off completely and use the threaded portion for a plug. Jim

If you plug it with your finger it runs bad again. Felt is a good idea. I was trying to think of something to keep the mud dobbers out of it

Sounds cured, but just wondering... seems like delivering excessive fuel, the needle not regulating it for some reason, and the absence of the needle creates an air leak which just happens to balance the over-fuelling.

It's lack of fuel. Half choking it would clear it up

Never worked on Farmall, but your clone carb looks like a MS tsx model, resembling ones for Ford 8ns. My aluminum 241B clone ran fine at idle and up to 1/3 throttle, then leaned out from 1/3 up to about 3/4 throttle, then above 3/4 ran good again. So mid rpms were lean. Pulling the main adjusting needle all the way out opened more bowl vent space, and ran smooth. Finger over hole ran lean again. Measured the economizer jet and found it was 0.076 inch. Bought a 9n9914 jet ( 0.046 ) and it reduced the back suction so it ran fine.

Dont know jet sizes, or if your clone has a back suction curcuit with removable jet.

Dont know from your description if other intermittent source is causing too much suction.
