Tripping more

Anyone in their golden years tripping and falling more. In the last month I have fallen two times, both times in a hurry. One time I was getting down from my tractor on my trailer. I was falling backward. I grabbed the tractor tire and rolled backward on the trailer fender. No harm done. Next time rushing to get to my job on time, while unloading my tractor tripped on the road berm, and did a face plant on the road. Just got a black eye, and a skinned arm. I guess I need to be more careful, if that is possible. You guys be careful out there, even you young guys and gals. Stan

83 and use a cane most of the time to steady me. Haven't fallen but a time or two, usually when walking in tall grass/weeds or on very uneven ground. Legs are getting weaker. Can't walk more than about a hundred yards without stopping to rest. Not much fun anymore.

Eyesight, and accompanying depth perception, has a lot to do with tripping/not tripping. Since I got my eyes fixed, no more balance issues. Something for y'all to think about, if your eyes are not as they should be, or your prescription is out of date.

Tripping more but I also seem to be getting tangled up in extension cords and hoses more. I am very careful stepping up or down but the cords on the shop floor move themselves around to get me.
I have electrical outlets on every pole in my barn, 8 ft, and one in the middle with a windup cord attached to the rafters and a windup air hose in the middle attached to the rafters. Rarely use extension cords.
I love cordless tools too.

Dr always ask if i have fallen lately. Generally i answer of course. I do not sit all day. Just getting over compression fracture of L 1 and 2. Moving welder in shop and had to pull a little extra. Did not realize miller used plastic handles. Handle snapped off and bam i set down in floor.

Not tripping, but getting up from certain situations has become a problem in the last six months.I'm working in the attic of an old building, taking out an old chimney. The building has a 12=12 pitch, and the peak is over 12 feet from the ceiling joists I'm walking on.There is a 8 inch wide board that runs from end to end as a catwalk.I climb through a hatch in the ceiling, and onto that board. Then I stand up.I used to just jump up,Now my legs don't seem strong enough for me to just pop right up there. Now I seem to need to grab something. Not to pull or lean on,more just to reassure myself as I rise up.Once I'm up I'm good,I'm carrying two 5 gallon buckets of brick and morter 40 feet across that 8 inch runway. Then the fun starts again while I get on my knees, and climb down the hole onto the ladder.I only carry one bucket at a time down though.I'm 68,the exact age my father started taking roof jobs but getting me to do them.

I suggest we older folks should not rush any procedures or jobs. When younger, we could work a 14 hour day and still hang in there and keep going. Stop and think of the consequences if we fall and end up 6 months recovering. No one will like that scenario. Get those grab handles installed in the shower and bathtub.
