starter solenoid just clicking

I have a battery that's at 12.7 volts. I replaced the old solenoid because it was just clicking. I put on a different one from a running tractor and it's still just clicking. I have good battery voltage and can't figure out why it's just clicking. thanks

Hook up some good booster cables tight to the solenoid and try that. What tractor ? Maybe engine is stuck
it's a Minneapolis Moline bg I think. engines not locked up I turned it over with my hand. I'll try hooking a battery with some jumper cables directly to the starter to make sure it's not a bad starter

Remove both battery cables at the starter and the ground and clean them up till shiny and then reconnect them. Had a problem like that with my OliverS88 and had bad connections at the battery cables

Clean both ends of both battery cables as old posted. Do you by chance have the "clamp-on" repair battery cable ends at the battery posts? I have seen those lose connection in the clamp area.

With the tractor in neutral use a jumper wire to jump from a battery power source to the start terminal of the solenoid and see if the starter engages. If it does that can indicate a high resistance in the start switch/button or wire connection in that circuit.

Sounds like bad connections in the starting circuit from the battery to the switch and all. Could even be a bad switch but need to tst before just replacing parts and try each one as you go so you know if it helped or not. Sometimes just replacing parts things get missed or over looked and then you don't knnow where the trouble is.

That was to eliminate a bad cable. If the engine cranks with booster cables you know it’s Your you have a cable at fault from dirty corroded end , to green and corroded inside the the protective coating. And yes u need a piece of wire to jump from the main cable to the solenoid s terminal to activate the solenoid.

okay I cleaned the battery cables real good and hit the starter button and it sure enough it turned over so thanks for all your help
That is called preventative maintenance , an inspection of cables and cleaning them every so often. Also a good idea to grease them or I spray them with a bit of rust check. But did it start ? Lol.
