What Did You Do With Your Green Tractor Today?

Planning to use the 77 and 4240 plow at our club’s plow day in April. Tractor had one set of wheels weights on the inside of the rim. No fluid in tires. Picked up a couple more sets of weights last fall. Got one set cleaned up when we had some warm weather a few weeks ago and could work on them outside. Painted them up and got them mounted yesterday.View attachment 7233

Charts show (just) water in those tires would add just under 400 lbs per tire. At 140 lbs. per weight, I should probably go ahead and get the other set on there to be comparable.

Does anyone have any experiences to share about weighting a 77 to pull a 2x14” plow? (Silt loam soil)

Here we go again. Skipped sandblasting on these weights. Started with liquid formulation of Rustoleum Rust Reformer after surface prep.

On the first set there was some white residue so I rubbed it down with Scotchbrite, used one coat CIH red oxide primer ( that I had on hand), then one coat Tallman’s gray primer before finish coats of Tallman’s.

With the second set, I didn’t have much of the white residue show up so I skipped the Scotchbrite. Maybe I did the wrong thing but I passed on the red oxide primer and I put on a coat of gray primer. Saw some brown discoloration on the paint brush as I was applying the primer so I think I should have done something to wipe/clean the surface off first. Plan to put on a second coat of primer before finish coats.

Rust Reformer

Specifically, Rustoleum’s product, instructions state that after it dries, it can be “painted”. It doesn’t say ”primed”. I would think it would need to be primed like you normally do. Would there be any reason not to apply primer? Using it on wheel weights.

The instructions on the product I used say to apply a primer before putting on a water based paint but with an oil based paint, you can go directly over the rust reformer.

Back to a little work on the 4240 plow. Wasn’t looking forward to changing the bolts that attach to the springs on the two adjustment levers. Was almost going to leave well enough alone. Glad I didn’t. Turned out to be easier than I thought.

Got the 1800c out and Hadley aired up the spreader tires, maybe get to the manure pile someday soon.

Father in law and I hauled out the calf lot after we loaded out 32 calves.
Ran the 1800c from 530-845 pm. Wednesday evening.
He was moving on in the skid loader.

Moved my ‘51 77 out of the shop for the first time since last fall. I had to get it away from the wall where the pipes come across to my LP heater so the LP supplier’s tech could get at all the fittings in order to track down a leak.
I’ve had the battery on a maintainer the whole time. The old 6 volt system didn’t turn ‘er over very fast but the engine fired right up.
I will begin working on some repairs on this one in a couple of weeks and eventually finish repainting it. Will be replacing the exhaust manifold and all the i/o gaskets, check out the brakes, work on the seat suspension, several gaskets and seals, new ignition and light harnesses and whatever else I run across in the process.

I had to have the starter rebuilt on this guy, but I just purchased. I go to pick up the starter today, not as fun as some of you guys get to do with your green stuff, but that has to be done too.

chopped a feeder wagon full of green feed for beef cows with 1655. hauled couple loads of composted manure on grass fields I chopped off last week used 1650 for this

I put these eye bolts in through the front axle to hook a chain onto for transport. I had started out putting a chain through the hole for the front cultivator pipe. When I mounted the cultivator on, I put the chain around the front axle for lack of better idea.
So now with the cultivator frame off this tractor, I have touched up the paint on the frame and front axle where the chain had scratched off the paint.


I may end up getting some shorter eye bolts and putting them through the holes used for bolting the cultivator pipes on. I prefer to attach to a point on the frame instead of the axle.

I might be able to re-use these longer eye bolts in the same place on the other 77 after I get that and the cultivator fixed up and put together.

Hadley, 14, tedded hay with the 770 gas. Then he raked with the gas 77. Tractor Tetris with everything else. We're blessed. GG Wes

Nice clean 2-105. I sure hope the air is working good in it for you. If the temps are anything like here it would cook you in that cab.

Funny was , about 20 bales in, I was back to the shed there, putting a can of 134a in it. Made all the difference. This tractor did not get it's duals put on this spring, first time out of the shed was Sat afternoon.. Thanks for your reply. GG Wes

Attended a community Olde Tyme Days the last two days with some other members of the Keystone Oliver Club. They were featuring Oliver this year. This morning we drove in a parade. They hadn’t said so ahead of time so at the staging area we suggested that since Oliver was the featured brand, they should let us move up front and lead.

I have been attending the Maine antique tractor club’s annual festival this weekend. 147 tractors, lots of Olivers. Pulling and displays. I brought 6 Olivers and pulled 2, my 77 and super 99 GM. I won the 5000lb class with the 77. The 99 is too big for our club so I pulled it as exhibition. The 1900 in the pic is not mine
