Thank goodness for ROPS

A man operating a CAT was saved by a solidly-built ROPS, suffering only "non-life-threatening" injuries. The article wouldn't let me save the image as anything but a "webp" which I don't think can be embedded here, so I'll post the link:

Unfortunately, this is one of several serious construction site incidents in the City of Ann Arbor this summer.

Just do a search for "webp to jpg converter". Free Convert is usually the one that pops up.

Nice. Bookmarked. I like that it will let me process files I've already downloaded but also new ones to me that I haven't saved locally.

I've got some stuff here I'll want to process now.

When I was at cat a mining outfit dropped a D8 off a high wall. The man inside just broke a couple ribs from the armrest. Pretty amazing what those cabs will survive

Experience and caution usually limits these kinds of accidents. Unfortunately, the young whippersnappers get into trouble taking risks.

I've seen the presence of a ROPS embolden drivers to take risky chances they likely would have avoided otherwise. Since my tractor seat does not have a seat-belt, the operators manual says not to use the ROPS, I do anyway when using the FEL with heavy stuff.

A ROPS and seat belt saved me from being crushed . While operating a small excavator. The ditch wall collapsed and took the Bobcat with it .

Not being sarcastic, but based on the picture, the operator had it coming. I have a lot of situations where I am running equipment on slopes. When I feel that the "pendulum" is outside the rear wheels I do something different. Problem I have with ROPS bars is that they limit the sheds I can use to keep my equipment out of the weather.
It looks like he may have been backing up, and maybe texting at the same time.
