N8 Valve Job

First time to do valve job on my 1950 N8. Bought new valves, guides, springs and keepers. Intakes valves have a shoulder that stops the guide from going all the way down to the fluted end of stem. Exhaust valves do not have the same shoulder and the guide goes all the way down, so the spring, retainer and keepers fall out. Is this normal. All other dimensions of the valves are the same as original parts removed.

Once the guides are installed in the block and the valves dropped in and the spring, retainer, and keepers are in place the "shoulder" will be a moot point.

Thank you. Most of the videos I watched showed the valve assembly being insert and don't mention the slack. Now I can go back to work.
